(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – Five people were injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday evening in Porter Township.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says 46 year old Earl Horner was on U.S. 12 near Union Road just before 7 PM, and was turning into the Horizon Bank parking lot. Horner told deputies the sun got into his eyes and he didn't see a vehicle traveling west, and the two automobiles collided.

Horner was taken by Edwardsburg Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The other vehicle was driven by 37 year old Ryan Johnson of Bronson. He and his passengers, 46 year old Tonya Derr, 15 year old David Derr and 2 year old Aria Arredondo, also all of Bronson, were checked out at the scene by the Porter Township Ambulance and released.

Deputies say everyone was wearing their seat belts, and a child safety seat was utilized.
