Northeast Indiana Jobless Rates Drop In May

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Jobless rates dropped during the month of May around Northeast Indiana.

Data released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development shows LaGrange County had the biggest drop, going from an April jobless rate of 28.5 percent to 10.2 percent, which is a change of 18.3 percent. The County's May 2020 rate is still higher than May 2019 when it was 2.5 percent.

Elkhart County saw their jobless rate drop 16.7 percent. In April it was at 28.6 percent and in May 11.9 percent.

Noble County saw a drop of 11.9 percent, going from 28.1 percent in April to 16.2 percent in May. Steuben County saw their jobless rate go down 7.8 percent, dropping from 19.6 percent in April to 11.8 percent.

DeKalb County went from 21.3 percent to 14.2 percent, which is a change of 7.1 percent.

Statewide, Indiana's jobless rate went from 17 percent in April to 11.9 percent in May. That's below the U.S. jobless rate, which was 13 percent in May.
