(CENTREVILLE) – Glen Oaks Community College has announced it will reopen the campus on August 24, with Fall Semester classes beginning on August 31.

Glen Oaks President Dr. David Devier reiterated that the safety of students, employees, and the community has been the driving consideration as members of the college's COVID-19 Task Force worked to develop the plan.

Devier says while the College is in Phase 4 of the State reopening plan, the “Return 2 Learn” plan allows educational institutions to reopen fully as they go into the school year. Although they realize that they may still have some staff continue to work remotely due to medical reasons or school and day care closings, Devier says they have decided to bring employees back to campus the week before the start of Fall classes.

Although the campus is open, Devier says they still encourage students to make appointments so that they can serve them in a timely manner.

The plan provides a number of safety and enforcement processes to specifically address the spread of COVID-19. They include masks being required for students, college employees and guests; mandatory social distancing throughout the college; safety shields being required at work stations in high traffic areas; employees being required to submit daily self-health forms; and guests to campus being required to check in and submit health forms.

The campus is prepared with sanitizer dispensers, masks and predetermined social distance placement of desks and furniture in classrooms and on the concourse. They have also established a quarantine room and will check temperatures as needed.

Devier says Glen Oaks will deliver classes in person, online, synchronous and in hybrid formats. Synchronous classes are where instructors would simultaneously teach in person and on line. Hybrid classes incorporate both in person and on line components.

All face to face classes will be taught with social distancing observed.
