(JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP) – One person is dead following a one vehicle crash in Cass County's Jefferson Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his officers were called at 11:51 PM Monday to the area of Brownsville Street and Highfield Road. The investigation shows that the vehicle was heading west on Brownsville Road when it lost control due to speed and a freshly applied chip seal. The automobile rolled over several times and stopped in a field.

The victims in the crash took themselves to Borgess Lee Dowagiac Hospital to be treated for the injuries they sustained. One individual was killed in the crash. Their name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Deputies are not sure if seat belts were being used. The crash is still being investigated.
