(LAGRANGE) – Three St. Joseph County residents have been arrested in connection with a multi-state vehicle theft investigation.

Officers with the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office, the Shipshewana Police Department and the Michigan State Police have been conducting a joint investigation into a series of auto thefts, which have been occurring over the last several months in Shipshewana, along with other areas of LaGrange County and St. Joseph County, Michigan.

During the investigation, officers identified three suspects: 26 year old Katie Ann Shephard of Three Rivers; 33 year old Kyle Miller of White Pigeon and 31 year old Joshua Webb of Constantine.

On Wednesday, officers with the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office, the Shipshewana Police Department and the Westview Schools Police Department located and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle at Alpha Builders on State Road 5 in Shipshewana. It struck a LaGrange County patrol vehicle and then grazed a Shipshewana patrol vehicle before leading police on a high speed pursuit in the northwest part of LaGrange County at speeds over 100 MPH.

The suspect vehicle went off the road in the area of County Road 450 North and County Road 1000 West, where it collided with two horses and a section of fence. One of the horses died and the other was injured.

The suspect vehicle spun out and tried to get away, but struck an Indiana State Police unmarked vehicle head on. The trooper fired at the vehicle and it stopped.

Shephard, Miller and Webb were arrested and all charged with attempted murder for striking the police cars. The matter is still under investigation by the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police.
