(ANGOLA) – A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Wolcottville man.

Indiana State Police say at 9:30 Sunday night, 42 year old James Dameron of Wolcottville was driving his motorcycle south on South West Fox Lake Road, east of South Menges Road, just west of Angola. Dameron failed to negotiate a slight curve in the road and the motorcycle went off the roadway.

Dameron struck a guide wire prior to the motorcycle hitting a utility pole. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's believed alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

Dameron served as a reserve officer with the Wolcottville Town Marshall's Office since 2012, however he has been on administrative leave since July.

Assisting troopers were the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, the Angola Police Department, the Angola Fire Department, the Steuben County EMS and the Steuben County Coroner's Office.

The crash is still under investigation.
