(KENDALLVILLE) – Authorities have identified the source of some loud booming noises heard in northern Noble County and some surrounding counties Sunday night.

The Noble County Sheriff's Department says they tracked down the source of the sounds after receiving calls from citizens. They discovered a man shooting off Tannerite on Strater Road, just outside of Kendallville. Officers talked to the man who said he ran out of the explosive, and wouldn't be shooting off anymore.

Tannerite is an explosive that is designed for target practice. It's a two part product that is stable when it's separate. However if the ammonium nitrate is mixed with the powered aluminum, it becomes extremely explosive.
