(COLDWATER) – There will be new leadership for the Branch County Commission in 2021.

During their organizational meeting Monday, the Commissioners voted to have incumbent Randall Hazelbaker serve as their Chairman for the new year. Hazelbaker represents District 5, which consists of Coldwater Township, Coldwater City Ward 4 and Quincy Township Precinct 2. He is beginning his sixth term, and is the longest serving of the current Commissioners.

The Commission also voted to have incumbent Leonard Kolcz serve as their Vice Chairman. He defeated Jon Houtz by a vote of 5-0. Kolcz is starting his third term as the District 2 Commissioner. District 2 is made up of the City of Bronson along with Matteson, Batavia, Bronson, Bethel, Noble and Gilead Townships.

In other business, the Commission voted to alter the amount of time of public comments from five minutes to three minutes per person during their meetings. The Commission did say that they could allow for a person to speak longer than the three minutes if they think the topic deserves more time.

The Branch County Commission will continue to meet in regular session on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at 4 PM. Their work sessions would be the Thursday prior to the regular meeting at 9 AM.
