(STURGIS) – A water main break has led to the City of Sturgis issuing a boil water advisory for a specific area.

Assistant City Manager Andrew Kuk says this precautionary action is being taken due to a loss of pressure in the water distribution system caused by the break.

The boil water advisory area includes only the citizens in this specific area: Neuman Street from North Centreville Road to Second Street; First Street from Neuman Street to West Street and Second Street from Neuman Street to West Street.

All residents impacted by the boil water advisory should have also received a hard copy at their home.

Impacted residents are advised to not drink water without boiling it first. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

Kuk says the City is working to repair the water system. The boil water advisory shall remain in effect until results from the sampling verity the water is safe to drink. Customers will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted.
