(UNDATED) – Two separate accidents Tuesday in Branch County injured three people.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department says the first accident happened at 1:10 PM in Ovid Township. A motorcycle driven by 24 year old Dylan Smith of Bronson was heading east on Central Road, and was following a pick up, which obstructed his view. A semi heading west passed Smith, who then moved out to pass the pick up, but he sideswiped an SUV, driven by 60 year old Kimberly Schoneboom of Coldwater.

Both Smith and Schoneboom were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Schoneboom was wearing her seat belt and airbags in the SUV deployed. Smith was not wearing a helmet, and was cited for not having a motorcycle endorsement.

The Lakeland Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Deputies were then called out at 4:35 PM to the area of U.S. 12 and Carey Lake Drive in Batavia Township. 33 year old Robert David of Elkhart was driving his motorcycle east on U.S. 12 and was behind three vehicles.

The three autos slowed down due to a pick up, driven by 68 year old Donald Marks of Bronson, who was signaling he wanted to turn left.

David decided to pass the vehicles and did not see Marks' turn signal, and drove into the side of the pick up. He was treated at the scene by the Bronson Fire Department and then taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Life Care Ambulance.

Investigators determined that David was under the influence of marijuana which affected his operating the motorcycle. Criminal charges are being sought.
