(STURGIS TOWNSHIP) – A Sturgis woman suffered life threatening injuries in a collision Sunday night.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was called to the intersection of U.S. 12 and White School Road just before 8 PM Sunday for a collision between a motorcycle and a car. Deputies determined that a 25 year old Sturgis woman was driving her motorcycle west on U.S. 12. A car, driven by a 75 year old Indiana man pulled into the intersection from White School Road and the vehicles collided.

The Sturgis woman was flown by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the car and his passenger were not injured.

Deputies say speed may have been a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Sturgis Police, Michigan State Police, the Tri-Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.
