(CONSTANTINE) – For the second time in six months, voters in the Constantine School District voted down a bond proposal.

Tuesday's bond proposal was defeated 754 No votes to 442 Yes votes. That means 1,197 people cast a ballot out of 6,642 registered voters in the District, which comes out to just over 18 percent.

In November 2021, voters turned down a similar proposal with 646 NO votes to 392 YES votes.

If approved the new bond proposal would have raised $38.8 million and allowed the Constantine School District to continue to improve the facilities to support the students' educational programming.

The main thrust of the improvements would have been upgrades to Eastside Elementary School which would allow it to house all Pre-K through Fifth Grade students. The upgrades would have also included: a partial demolition of the existing building and the construction of a new two story addition and renovations to the remaining structure; new student technology; expanded gym and cafeteria to host large events; flexible classroom seating for multipurpose use; and the installation of air conditioning.
