(CENTREVILLE) – More information has been released on a fire Friday night at the former Village Market building in Centreville.

The Centreville Fire Department says they were dispatched to the former grocery store on M-86 at 11:20 PM, after St. Joseph County Central Dispatch received several calls from citizens about smoke coming from the building, which is vacant. Firefighters report seeing smoke and flames when they arrived.

The Sturgis, Three Rivers, Colon, Fabius-Park Township and Mendon Fire Departments provided mutual aid in battling the blaze, which was finally put out after approximately three hours.

Fire officials says the cause of the fire is not known. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal's Office will conduct an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
