(CENTREVILLE) – A women arrested for allegedly stealing an Amish horse and buggy has been arraigned.

St. Joseph County District Court officials say 31 year old Lona Latoski of Sturgis has been charged with two felony counts of larceny of livestock; and larceny between $1,000 and $20,000.

On January 20, Sturgis Police were called to the Wal Mart Store on South Centreville Road on a report of a stolen Amish buggy and horse. The victims, who are from Shipshewana, had gone shopping and came out to find their horse and buggy gone.

A truck driver parked in the Wall Mart lot, told officers he watched a women steal the buggy and gave officers a description of the suspect. Police say they had contact with the suspect earlier in the day at Wal Mart.

An officer located the unoccupied buggy and horse in the 1200 block of East Chicago Road later that evening. Latoski was found in a nearby motel and arrested without incident. She told officers she was cold and did not have a ride back to her residence, which is why she took the horse and buggy.

Latoski plead not guilty to the charges. The horse and buggy were returned to its owners.
