(CENTREVILLE) – A new member has been added to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office team.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman is proud to introduce the newest component of the Sheriff’s Office Wellness Program, Facility Dog CJ. Facility dogs are companion dogs trained to enhance stress management techniques and be a calming presence.

Bingaman says research shows the relationship between dogs and law enforcement officers can have positive influence on the ability to prepare for and recover from stressful incidents. Bingaman says the impact of CJ’s presence on all of the staff is significant and they are grateful to the community partners who helped make this a part of the overall wellness program for the Sheriff’s Office.

Other facets of the Sheriff’s Office Wellness Program include a designated Chaplain, Peer Support services, Critical Incident Debriefings, and access to local gym facilities.

Bingaman wishes to thank the St. Joseph County United Way, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #106, and St. Joseph County Veterans’ Affairs for their logistical and financial support in bringing CJ to the Sheriff’s Office.
