(STURGIS) - Questions have been raised about an investigation into embezzlement at the Doyle Community Center.
During last week's meeting, former Doyle Office Manager Leslie Brooks addressed the Sturgis City Commission about the investigation. Having worked at the Doyle for 13 years, Brooks says she's very sad and disappointed to hear about the embezzlement situation. Brooks says she recently heard that the City may not be pursuing any charges against the office manager. Brooks says she just wants to express her frustration if that is true. (LISTEN ABOVE)
Brooks shares that not pursing charges is not a good step to take for the City. Brooks says that financial misconduct deserves accountability, and if the City is not looking to bring charges, it sends the wrong message, not only to City employees but to the public. She says by not bringing charges, the City is sending a message that it's okay to steal. Brooks says working at the Doyle for many years, and being a part of every fundraiser out there, money was always a critical subject.
Sturgis City Manager Andrew Kuk told the Commission and the audience that the matter is still being investigated by the Sturgis Department of Public Safety Police Division.
