(STURGIS) - Sturgis Electric crews and mutual support continue to work on electrical outages inside and north of the City.
Sturgis City Manager Andrew Kuk says they currently estimate that 1,900 customers remain out of service, with the majority of those outages in small and slow to repair areas. Because of that, crews are estimating it will take 6 to 7 days until full restoration of power.
Residents who have sustained damage to the electrical service on their property are advised to contact a licensed electrician promptly to complete necessary repairs and ensure their home is ready for reconnection once power is restored. If you are experiencing a new outage or a downed line on your property, please contact 269-659-7255.
Kuk says additionally, Public Services crews are still working to address trees and limbs in City streets and right-of-ways, with many streets still impacted. Several of these areas have downed lines that are entangled with the trees. If you encounter a downed line, do not approach or touch it; maintain a distance of at least 25 feet.
Currently South Lakeview between Myrtle and South Street, Wenzel between Park and Jefferson, West Main Street between Nottawa and Clay, and South Street between Nottawa and Clay are impassable. Residents are urged to use caution when traveling, avoid impacted areas, and seek alternate routes when possible.
The Sturgis compost site will be open normal hours on Saturday and Sunday. Residents may place brush in the terrace in advance of an emergency brush pickup, but are reminded not to place materials in the roadway.
Kuk says cleanup and power restoration efforts will continue through the weekend; He thanks the community for their patience as City crews and partners work to restore services.
