(INDIANAPOLIS) - A state of disaster emergency has been declared for 63 Indiana counties, including three in Northeast Indiana.

Governor Mike Braun made the announcement Friday for the 63 counties, which includes LaGrange, Steuben and Elkhart.

Braun says many Hoosier communities were impacted by the severe weather that swept over the state this week, which included flooding, severe weather and tornadic activity. He says this emergency declaration ensures that every available State resource is mobilized quickly to support response efforts, help local government address urgent needs, and help Hoosiers recover.

The declaration is effective for 30 days and allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance to impacted families who have eligible expenses under the State Disaster Relief Fund Program.
