(WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP) - A man is dead following a head on crash in White Pigeon Township.
The Michigan State Police say just after 12 PM Tuesday, they were called to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 12 near Lima Road.
The preliminary investigation shows that an SUV was heading east on U.S. 12 and attempted to pass two other vehicles. The SUV struck an oncoming box truck head on.
The driver of the truck, a 64 year old Birmingham, Michigan man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 20 year old White Pigeon man, was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers were assisted by the White Pigeon Police and Fire Departments, the Centreville-Constantine Police Department, the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office and Life Care Ambulance.
