(COLDWATER) – A suspect has been arrested in a fatal Coldwater stabbing incident.

Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid says police officers responded to an incident at the Quality Inn at 3 AM Saturday, after receiving a 911 call. They found a man unresponsive inside a motel room. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arriving. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, allowing officers to broadcast a Be On The Lookout to other area police agencies. Michigan State Police troopers spotted the car on U.S. 12 near Quincy. They took the driver into custody in connection with the stabbing.

Scheid says the name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of family members. The name of the suspect is also not being released, until formal charges have been filed and he is arraigned.

The case remains under investigation.
