(SHERMAN TOWNSHIP) – The driver of a tractor has died from the injuries he sustained in a crash Saturday morning in Sherman Township.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department handled the accident, but have not released the name of the victim. Several posts on social media sights have identified the man as 55 year old Thomas Kissel of Bronson.

The Sheriff's Department says at 11:30 AM Saturday, Kissel was driving a 1947 Ford 9N tractor southbound on North Centreville Road, just south of Featherstone Road. Investigators say a pick up driven by a 53 year old Sturgis man struck the rear of the tractor. Kissel was thrown from the tractor, and was not responsive when rescue personnel arrived.

The Tri Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance treated Kissel at the scene and then transported him to the Kirsch Municipal Airport where he was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He died later from his injuries.

The pick up driver was not injured. His name has not been released, and the crash is still under investigation.

A candlelight vigil for Kissel is going to be held at Free Church Park, Thursday at 7 PM. Those that knew Kissel are asked to please bring a candle and a memory to show the family how much support they have.
