(BRONSON) – A fire early Wednesday morning damaged a Bronson home.

Bronson Deputy Fire Chief Ken Stutzman says his department was called out to 214 East Chicago Road at 1:17 AM Wednesday. There were heavy flames in the lower level of the two story house when firefighters arrived.

The Coldwater Fire Department provided mutual aid and the fire was eventually put out at 2:27 AM.

A woman in the home told firefighters that she felt the heat and smoke from the fire and was able to get out of the house with two dogs.

An investigation determined the fire started in a first floor bedroom and is believed to be electrical in nature. Damage estimates are $72,000. The Branch County Sheriff's Department Victim Services and Life Care Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
