(CENTREVILLE) – A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday for a woman charged with abusing her child.

According to WWMT, the preliminary hearing for 36 year old Amanda Wood of Three Rivers took place in St. Joseph County District Court. Wood and her boyfriend, Jason Haskins, both face two charges of first degree child abuse, in connection with injuries to the then 9 month child. The child was found alone in Wood’s Sturgis apartment, where she and Haskins were living with her two children.

According to court testimony, a maintenance worker was on a repair call August 8 when he noticed two unsupervised children in Wood’s apartment and called the Sturgis Department of Public Safety. An officer arrived and found a baby that was propped up on a couch. The baby was having trouble breathing and had a large bruise on its forehead.

The baby was taken to Sturgis Hospital, where he was found to have a fractured ribs and tibia, a MRSA infection on his neck, soft tissue swelling across his body and a temperature of 104.3 degrees.

The baby spent a month in the hospital recovering from his injuries.

A request to reduce Wood’s bond was denied. She and Haskins are still being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.

The preliminary hearing was adjourned until September 20.
