(UNION CITY) – A high speed chase has landed a man in jail.

Branch County District Court officials say the Union City Police Department tried to stop a motorcycle after seeing the vehicle had no license plate. Officers pursued the motorcycle, with speeds exceeding 100 MPH. They eventually were able to stop the bike on M-60, just east of Nine Mile Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, 48 year old Brett Brooks of Union City, swung his arms at police officers, but eventually calmed down. Police searched Brooks and his motorcycle and found methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, ammunition and brass knuckles.

Brooks is charged with possession of meth, carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a weapon, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of a dangerous weapon, felony firearm, fourth degree fleeing from an officer, two counts of resisting a police officer and a habitual offender fourth offense.

Brooks was arraigned and bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on June 1 and a preliminary examination on June 8.

Online court records show in the past, Brooks has been convicted three times for felony assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of meth, breaking and entering and fleeing from a police officer.
