(VOLINIA TOWNSHIP) – A man was injured in a motorcycle accident in Cass County’s Volinia Township.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says 67 year old James Hurd of Decatur was heading south on Lawrence Road near McKenzie Road just before 11 AM Thursday when he rode his motorcycle over some gravel. Hurd lost control of his motorcycle and ended up coming to a rest in a grassy area off the side of the road.

Hurd was taken by the SMCAS Ambulance to Bronson Methodist Hospital to be treated for non life threatening injuries.

Deputies say Hurd was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation. Assisting deputies were the Wayne Township and the Dowagiac Fire Departments.
