(CENTREVILLE) - The trial of a man charged in two different cases has been postponed.
St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials say the trial of 27 year old Miguel Hernandez-Ruiz, was set to begin last week, but due to one of the Spanish speaking translators getting sick, Judge Paul Stutesman announced it will be rescheduled.
In the first case, Hernandez-Ruiz is facing two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and first degree home invasion, following a March 20, 2024 incident. It's alleged on that day, Hernandez-Ruiz broke into a home in the Sweet Lake Trailer Park and sexually assaulted two girls under the age of 13.
Hernandez-Ruiz fled the area and was later found and arrested in Fort Wayne.
The second case stems from an incident that happened on February 6, 2024, where Hernandez-Ruiz allegedly broke into the home of a Sturgis woman and sexually assaulted her.
When Hernandez-Ruiz was arrested for the March incident, then St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said he is a Mexican National who came to the United States in 2021 on a temporary work Visa, which expired in December 2021. Hernandez-Ruiz remained in Sturgis.
No new date has been set for his trial.
