(STURGIS) - There will be no change in leadership for the Sturgis City Commission in 2026.

During Monday's organizational meeting, the Commissioners voted to re-appoint Frank Perez to a third term as Mayor by a vote of 5-4.

By an identical vote of 5-4, the Commission voted to have Jeff Mullins serve as Vice-Mayor.

In a media release, Perez says he is deeply grateful to those who have entrusted him with this continued honor.

Perez says in his upcoming term his focus will be on two key areas: Reviewing and Modernizing the City Charter; and examining the City's Zoning Ordinance.

The Sturgis City Charter was adopted February 15, 1921 and the last amendments were made on November 2, 2004. Perez says a comprehensive review is long overdue to ensure that it accurately reflects the needs and operations of the City.

Perez also says there needs to be a critical examination of the City's current Zoning Ordinance to ensure their regulations are business-friendly, investor-friendly and resident-friendly. He says he intends to work with the City Commission to review the existing regulations that might be hindering growth or creating unnecessary difficulties for working and conducting business within Sturgis.
