(WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP) - Two men are dead following a crash in White Pigeon Township.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Chad Spence says at 5:14 AM Thursday, deputies were called to the area of Eagley Road and Lake Road for a reported personal injury crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV driven by a 57 year old man was traveling south on Eagley Road when an unknown vehicle traveling north crossed the centerline. The driver of the northbound vehicle said they crossed the centerline to avoid two parked pick ups on the east side of the road.

Investigators believe the driver of the SUV maneuvered his vehicle towards the west side of the road to avoid the northbound vehicle. During that move, two men who were walking were struck.

Spence says lifesaving measures were initiated, but the two men, a 36 year old and a 30 year old, succumbed to their injuries. Their names have not been release pending notification of family.

The White Pigeon Township Fire Department, the White Pigeon Police and Life Care Ambulance assisted at the scene. The matter is still under investigation.
