(UNDATED) - The surveys have been finished of the Three Rivers, Union City and Edwardsburg tornadoes that occurred on March 6.
The National Weather Service says a lone supercell developed in LaPorte County, Indiana and tracked northeast into lower Michigan. It moved through Cass, St. Joseph, Branch and eventually Calhoun Counties.
The survey in Cass County determined that the tornado was an EF-1 with a maximum wind speed of 95 MPH and a path of just over 13 miles. The twister started west-northwest of Edwardsburg at the intersection of Runkle Street and Conrad Road. It destroyed an attached garage and the front of a home.
The tornado continued northeast where it intensified and crossed M-62 and eventually lifted just east of the intersection of South and Walnut Roads.
The tornado in Three Rivers was an EF-2 and had wind speeds of 130 MPH and traveled almost 11 miles. It touched down near Roberts Road and M-60 and gained strength. It hit the Menards Store taking off the roof and collapsed an exterior wall. It then continued through the heart of Three Rivers, and crossed the St. Joseph River, causing damage to homes, businesses and school buildings.
The Union City tornado is being called an EF-3 and had maximum wind speeds of 130. It touched down northwest of Union Lake and traveled for just over 5 miles between Blossom and Mendon Roads.
The twister damaged several buildings and moved items away from their original locations.
The most widespread and intense damage was done along Prairie Rose Lane, where every residence along this stretch was either heavily damaged or completely destroyed.
It then continued into Union City before dissipating at the Branch-Calhoun County Lines.
A fourth tornado was reported in Calhoun County's Clarendon Township which is classified as an EF-0 with maximum wind speeds of 85 MPH.
