(STURGIS) - The Sturgis School District is getting two new buses.

During last week's meeting the Sturgis Board of Education was presented with a proposal to purchase the vehicles. Finance Director Ray Sterling shares what kind of buses the Board is being asked to approve. He says they are each 77 passenger capacity buses from Hoekstra at a total cost of $329,080.

Sterling shared that once the new buses arrive, they would be rotated into the fleet, with two of the oldest buses then being sold.

The Board unanimously approved the motion.

In a related agenda item, Sterling presented the Board with a recommendation to purchase new cameras for the bus fleet. The cost would be $75,591.32. There would also be an annual license fee of $6,381.76.

Sterling says the new cameras will improve the quality of the video and sound on the buses. There would also be a windshield camera and two that would go on the STOP arms, both on the front and the back. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Once the bus returns to the lot, the data from the cameras would be uploaded to the server.

The Board unanimously approved the motion as well.
