(STURGIS) - The Sturgis City Commission has decided on the path they will use to find a new City Manager.

Andrew Kuk announced April 22 that he would resign as City Manager effective July 24.

During a work session last Wednesday, City Clerk Ken Rhodes shared that when this has happened in the past, the Commission would normally appoint the Assistant City Manager to be the Interim City Manager. Since Sturgis doesn't have an Assistant City Manager, that option is not available.

Rhodes says he spoke with the Michigan Municipal League who offered some options for the City to consider. One is to find a City staff member to fill in. The other is the Michigan Municipal Executives have a list of former City Managers who could fill in as an interim. (LISTEN ABOVE).

After several minutes of discussion, the Commission agreed to use the MME to hire an interim City Manager, and then start the search for a permanent Manager after the November General Election.

In related business, the Commission discussed the vacate Precinct #3 seat that opened with the resignation of Linda Harrington.

Since her resignation falls in the six month window prior to the General Election, the Commission agreed to leave the seat vacant and fill it in November.
