(STURGIS) - Attempts to have Frank Perez censured and removed as Sturgis Mayor failed Wednesday night.
During their meeting, Sturgis City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution introduced by Aaron Miller to have an investigation conducted on certain members of the Commission.
Miller then shared with his fellow Commissioners that it appears Perez can't seem to follow the law, or even have an attitude of doing so, and in Miller's opinion is flippant towards the law which is extremely frustrating to him.
Miller introduced a motion to have Perez censured. Voting in favor of the motion were Miller, Vice Mayor Jeff Mullins, and Commissioners Justin Wickey and Daniel Boring. Voting against it were Commissioners Rick Bir, Marvin Smith and Cathi Abbs.
While the motion appeared to pass 4-3, because there are nine sitting Commissioners it need to receive 5 Yes votes to officially pass.
Miller next said Mr. Frank Perez is not the person who should be leading the City in the Mayor position. Miller says several public meetings have demonstrated that. Miller says he does not understand what for keeping him as the leader of the Commission as he has looked at it as objectively as possible. (LISTEN ABOVE)
Miller made a motion to remove Perez as Mayor of Sturgis. That motion also appeared to pass 4-3, but needed to have 5 Yes votes to official pass.
Perez was not at Wednesday's meeting, notifying the Commission that he was out of town for his son's soccer tournament.
