(STURGIS) - The Sturgis Board of Education will be asked to vote on the proposed 2026-2027 school year budget during their meeting Monday night.
During last week's Board meeting, Finance Director Ray Sterling shared that the proposed budget would reflect a $250 increase in the per pupil funding allowance, bringing the total to $10,300 per student.
Sterling shares that the proposed revenue for the 2026-2027 school year is $42,708,568. That's a $700,000 increase from the budget amendment approved for the 2025-2026 budget.
Sterling says the proposed total expenditures for the 2026-2027 budget is $43,225,000. That's a $1.1 million increase compared to the final 2025-2026 budget expenditures.
With these proposed numbers, Sterling says that would bring a change in fund equity of just over $517,000. That still leaves the School District with a fund balance of 26%.
The Sturgis School Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget during their meeting Monday, starting at 5:30 PM at the Sturgis Central Commons.
