(STURGIS) - It was a night to celebrate and to officially start a five day festival for the City of Sturgis.

The Sturgis Fest Kick Off Dinner was held Tuesday at the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts, and put on by the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce.

During the evening, the 2026 Sturgis Citizens Of The Year Deb Capman and Barry Lindblom were introduced to the audience.

Capman shared with the audience that she likes to get involved, not for receiving awards, but to give back to the people and places that make Sturgis a great place to live and raise a family. Capman says her parents were always volunteering and her mom, who is almost 93, still volunteers.

Lindblom says his father was his inspiration to be someone who gives back. He says he father taught him to be nice to everyone, no matter who they are or what their job is. He says his father taught him everyone deserves respect and he tries to live that every day.

Both Capman and Lindblom were given proclamations from State Representative Steve Carra and State Senator Jonathan Lindsey. Sturgis Mayor Frank Perez presented the proclamations as Carra and Lindsey were not able to attend the dinner.
