(ORLAND) - After a year off, the Vermont Settlement Days Festival is back.
Rebecca Maust says she started going to the festival when she was a child and her grandmother always helped out. Maust moved away but always came back for Vermont Settlement Days. She says it started to slow down because the long time volunteers were getting older and no new people were stepping up. Maust says Orland now has a good Chamber and a good group of volunteers and she's hoping people get involved and the festival will get bigger from here.
Most of the festival events will be going on at Orland Town Park.
Today's events and activities include the opening ceremonies, a parade, kids activities, the soccer tournament which is a new event, and the pedal pulls.
Also happening today will be the cricket spitting contest, the turtle races and the frog jumping contest. There will also be a fishing derby and another new event, line dancing at the Orland American Legion.
On Sunday there will a morning service along with live music and kids activities.
The mud volleyball tournament gets underway with a first place prize of $600, $300 for second place and $100 for third place.
The Library fundraiser auction will get underway along with more live music, the Mister Foam Bubble Party and the Little Mister & Miss Winners will be crowned.
