(SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP) – The search for a suspect accused of stabbing his father led to the precautionary lockdown of Schoolcraft Schools Thursday.

Michigan State Police say they were called to a home on in the 3000 block of West VW Avenue near South 12th Street just before 9 PM Wednesday. They discovered a 49 year old Schoolcraft man with non life threatening injuries.

The victim told troopers that he and his 27 year old son had been arguing and then his son slapped him before pulling out a knife and stabbing the victim multiple times and then running away from the scene.

Troopers say the suspect returned to the home at 8:30 AM Thursday, but couldn’t get in and ran away. Troopers along with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office started searching for the man. Kalamazoo County Central Dispatch contacted Schoolcraft Schools and advised them to go into lockdown.

The suspect was found just after 9 AM hiding in a ditch near East Lyon Street. He was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to murder and is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
