(MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP) – An investigation continues into a case of animal cruelty.

Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach says Animal Control was sent to the 10,000 block of Pioneer Street in Marcellus Township on September 30 after receiving a report of two dogs that were found as strays. Investigators say the dogs were emaciated and dehydrated, and one of them appeared to be blind.

Roach says the animals were seen at Bermans Veterinary Medical Center and no parasites or other factors were found that would have caused their condition, other than lack of care.

The dogs have gained weight and are now healthy enough to receive vaccines. The blind dog is going to need surgery to remove her eyes.

Roach says the owner of the dogs has been identified and charges are pending by the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
