
Dowagiac Man Critical After Being Hit By A Car

(DOWAGIAC) – A Dowagiac man is in critical condition after being hit by a car.
The Dowagiac Police Department was dispatched to a car-pedestrian crash at 4:32 AM Friday at the intersection of West Division Street and North Front Street.
Officers arrived and found 84 year old John Reist of Dowagiac laying in the roadway. He was initially treated at the scene by police along with the Dowagiac Fire Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and SMCAS Ambulance Service.
Reist was transported to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph and is listed in critical condition.
Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle, 39 year old Chris Harter of Dowagiac. The investigation showed that Mr. Reist was crossing the street on West Division St. and was walking north across the intersection. Harter’s vehicle was travelling east on West Division Street and was making a turn onto North Front Street. And his vehicle struck Reist.
Harter was not injured in the crash.
