(INDIANA) -The Indiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Agency are collaborating on a "Prescription Drug Take Back initiative." The initiative begins Saturday, October 25th and provides collection sites for the proper, environmentally safe disposal of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications, including pills and liquids. Needles and sharps are not accepted.
This free and anonymous service aims to address the public safety and health issues associated with prescription drug abuse. The initiative notes that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from home medicine cabinets. It also cautions against disposing of medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, as this can pose health and safety hazards. Unwanted medications can be dropped off at any Indiana State Police Post, with the exception of the Toll Road Post.
