(AUBURN) - Auburn has been tapped as one of two optimal locations for relocating the failing Rising Star Casino. The state-commissioned report specifically names a site near I-69 and State Road 8. The report says an Auburn-area casino would generate $204.3 million in revenue and $61.1 million in tax dollars each year. The other site recommended in the report is in downtown Indianapolis and would be more profitable but could have a negative impact on existing horse racing operations located in Shelbyville and Anderson. The Indiana Gaming Commission hired the Spectrum Gaming Group to prepare the report, as mandated by Senate Enrolled Act 43. State Senator Tyler Johnson, who represents most of Auburn, is opposed to relocating a casino to Auburn. He publicly criticized the report saying it ignores risks to families, school and public safety. Sixteen counties in Northern Indiana were excluded from the study due to an agreement between Indiana and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. Rising Star Casino is currently located in Rising Sun, Indiana - approximately 40 miles from Cincinnati. Click this link to read the full report from the Indiana Gaming Commission
