
Sara Main Named 2025 E.J. Shaheen Chair Winner

(CENTREVILLE) – Glen Oaks Community College has announced the winner of a special teaching honor.
Sara Main has been named the winner of the 2025 E. J. Shaheen Chair for Teaching Excellence Award. It was established in 1982 through a generous donation from E.J. Shaheen, a dedicated advocate for education and a founding board member of Glen Oaks Community College. This award recognizes outstanding full-time faculty who exemplify excellence in teaching and the value of education.
The Award was first given in the 1984-85 academic year, and with the 2025 recipient, 36 individuals have received this award.
Main is a member of the Glen Oak’s math faculty, who first taught part-time at Glen Oaks from 1996 to 2008. She returned as a full-time faculty members in 2022. Main previously taught at Jackson College and Western Michigan University.
She received her BA in Statistics from Central Michigan University and her MA in Mathematics from WMU. During her career, she won the J. Ward Preston Outstanding Faculty Award at Jackson College and the Graduate Student Teaching Effectiveness Award from the Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University.
While at Glen Oaks, she has designed MATH-101: Quantitative Reasoning. Her peers report that she effectively incorporates active learning into classroom assignments, group work, and projects.
